Karen Sheppard was raised in Arlington, TX and traveled the world with the military as an adult living in Utah, Colorado, Arkansas, Georgia, Germany and eventually returning to Texas. Karen's relocation to Augusta, GA in 2009 coincided with her retirement from a 30-year career as a civilian employee for the federal Government at Fort Hood, TX. As a senior leader, she provided management of every aspect of public works operations including industrial engineering, strategic planning, budget and personnel management, and IT and supply oversight for a 500-person organization. Karen's emphasis was in creating a well-rounded organization that was mission-focused yet balanced with social and civic activities. Volunteer activities included heading Make a Difference Day projects, Relay for Life teams, and area school supply drives. Retirement provided the opportunity to devote herself fully to volunteer efforts in the CSRA including the Make a Wish Foundation, Red Cross, and the Golden Harvest Food Bank along with her efforts at When Help Can't Wait.

Karen is married to Dennis, a civilian at Ft Gordon and together they have three daughters and one son and four grandchildren.
